Safe Sitter Basic

Saturday, April 17 or Sunday, May 16 - Safe Sitter Basic

Safe Sitter® is a medically accurate, hands-on, class that teaches boys and girls ages 11 to 13 how to handle emergencies when caring for children. The students learn what to do when a child chokes, safety for the sitter, how to call for emergency help, babysitting business skills, how to entertain children and keep them safe, and so much more.

Meghan, age 12, July 2009, said:

"Taking a babysitting class is very important if you want to become a babysitter.  It tells you about how to handle kids ages under 1 to 10 years old.  It gives you techniques to master a temper tantrum, who to call, how to evaluate situations, and how to give abdominal thrust to kids over age 1 and to give back blows and chest thrusts to kids under 1 [for choking rescue].  That is probably the most important thing you can know in Safe Sitter, even if it doesn't happen often.  It's still important to know, so in case it DOES happen, you're not responsible for the death of a child.  Babysitting is actually a serious business, because the parents trust you with their children, and they're your responsibility for a few hours.  It's good to be safe, smart, and know how to handle a situation, so if you want to be a serious babysitter, take the course!   You'll learn a lot you'd never thought about before."
